In Episode 212 of IKEA Home Tour, the Squad travels to Detroit, Michigan, to help two newlyweds who are in dire need of a living room makeover! Jonathan and Tiphany Walker are loving married life and expecting their first child together. They would love to entertain in their home, but the only space suitable is their tiny living room with outdated furniture and limited seating options for their guests. The Walkers dream of a comfortable and flexible living room where they can watch TV, host friends, and enjoy time together as a family. Thanks to the IKEA Home Tour Squad, Jonathan and Tiphany's small living room has been transformed into an expandable space where they can hang out alone or entertain a large group of friends. For the Walkers' entertainment system and shelving, the Squad chose the BESTÅ storage system featuring soft-close doors, plenty of drawers, and integrated lighting. To replace the Walkers' decade-old couch, the Squad selected the FRIHETEN sleeper sofa, which has storage underneath for linens and is super easy to convert into a bed for overnight guests. For even more seating, the Squad thought of the EKENÄS chair with matching footstools that double as seating for another 3 guests — and they can be stored under the BESTÅ storage system when not in use. Jonathan was so happy with the makeover that he broke into his happy dance —and the Home Tour Squad joined in! See floorplan in blog post: http://tinyurl.com/tiny-studio-zoku More home tours: http://tinyurl.com/small-spaces-playlist A month ago we visited this cool tiny studio apartment in Amsterdam. This space is called Zoku, and it is a huge building with more than 100 small apartments for tiny living, and this is what they look like. They are designed for online nomads, and people who travel frequently, to have a micro apartment space to dwell inside the city center of Amsterdam. It's connected to a shared office space / co-working space in the heart of Amsterdam, to make it easy to network and work during the stay. These tiny apartments can be rented short or long-term, making them the perfect substitute to hotel rooms. The architects and idea people behind this concept really thought this design through. The whole idea of the sliding staircase that leads up to the loft space is just genius. You find everything you need from a tiny bathroom / toilet, kitchen, dining area and a sleeping loft, you can access from the sliding staircase. The loft part of the apartment doesn't seem like it's there when the blinds are closed. This way you’ll be able to see the difference between warm greys and cool greys. CONSIDER TONE: Consider how tone will effect the room. A blue-based grey will feel very cool whereas a grey with a little yellow mixed in will appear warmer and more comfortable to live with. CHOOSE THE RIGHT SHADE: As a rule of thumb, the larger the room, the darker the grey should be. However, a rich grey can be used effectively to create intimacy and atmosphere in a small space. GO MONOCHROME: If pale shades are not your thing, consider an ultra-stylish look with black and white furniture. This will create a truly glamorous and really sleek look. GO SCANDINAVIAN: Pale grey walls combined with painted white furniture will create a beautiful Scandinavian look. CONSIDER COLOUR: Consider using bright, warm colours for your accessories or furniture such as orange or red as accent colours. This looks especially effective with rich shades of grey. ACCESSORISE WITH GREY: Grey doesn’t have to be the wall colour, you can choose to just accessorise with grey. A grey sofa for example is a classic choice and always looks very sophisticated.
